LEYLAND

Hi and welcome to my little bit on the web.Well i'm from the small town of Leyland situated in north west England near the city of Preston.Since i was a very young lad many many years ago i have been almost obsessed with music and radio.I guess i got interested in music in the early 60's but there wasn't a lot to listen to on the radio if you wanted to hear pop music. There was a couple of programmes on the BBC Light programme,Saturday Club and Easybeat come to mind but there wasn't much else. Then there was Radio Luxembourg at night but that used to fade in and out all the time. However, things changed dramatically in 1964 when i first heard Radio Caroline North from the Isle of Man.This was brilliant, pop music all day long and no fading in and out.Soon there was lots of radio stations all over the place and a long wire was connected to the old invicta radio we had in the living room to get better reception of them.Apart from Radio Caroline we could pick up Radio 270,Radio Scotland and Wonderful Radio London which i thought was truly wonderful.Reception of Big L was very good in the mornings but suffered from bad continental interference in the evenings.Anyway, that started my interest in music, big style and also gave me the radio bug which i still have, leading me eventually into Amateur Radio. In 1986 i went to night school to study for the radio amateurs exam and got my licence and callsign G0IDE in 1987.Amateur radio equipment in use today is the Yaesu FT990 feeding a SG230 smartuner and a vertical antenna.
